Does Louis Farrakhan and his ilk practice the same religion as most of those in Pakistan? Are both groups referred to as Muslims?

If so, is this the same religion of those that were responsible for 9-11?

Why do many of this faith in Pakistan for example wear certain clothing....but, those in America dress somewhat differently?

Are there different "denominations" of Muslim or Islam or, different beliefs within the religion? Or, are all the same, with the same beliefs, from country to country...sub-group to sub-group?

Lastly, in this religion, why is it wrong to post a picture of Muhammad? I don't understand why a depiction of him, is wrong? In the Christian religion, every old woman has a picture of Jesus hanging on her wall....or, of the disciples, or of John the Baptist....reminding them of their devotion to their religion, their loving, kind God, etc...Wouldn't a depiction of Muhammad hanging on the wall of an old Muslim woman be a good reminder to those of that faith?

And, why is there such violence threatened against those that publish a picture of Muhammad, etc...Much is debated, critisized, made fun of with all religions.....but, Muslims seem to be the most vocally offended, and quick to violence when their prophet/religion is the subject.

Serious questions...just trying to understand a little better.

.“Reciprocity, the process of giving and receiving, is an essential aspect of Hinduism” according to the Smithsonian Institute’s website Puja: Expressions of Hindu Devotion. In your answer, think beyond Hinduism to Indian culture broadly. Discuss the role reciprocity plays, or how reciprocity is represented, in three aspects of Indian culture (history, literature, religion, social customs/laws, art, and/or music).

I've been shopping sarees online and don't know what fabric is best. The art silk seem very cheap does that mean they are heavy and uncomfortable. Having never worn a saree should I buy a cheap cotton printed just to try before investing in expensive party one?

Will I be able to survive snide glances and chinese whispers?!?

Dear Cyber-sisters....help me decide!

This real world is more cruel than you can imagine! I'm in mood of spending husband's hard-earned money on another Saree (which I'm unlikely to wear again...since I prefer Salwar-suits! But if you must know, Sarees are considered more elegant as party-wear!).

Here's the scenario...This Party, that I speak of, will have a different guest list than the previous one...but there are a few common factors...err, invitees. They're my problem!

What can I do to erase their memory? Will wearing different jewellery fool them?!?
I'm so glad to hear that, kaiyo :) "No one will care!" And here I was losing sleep over a non-issue, LOL!

This is our party and all eyes will be on us...Still, its wonderful to know!!!
in *no* mood...sorry for the typo up there :( Ah, MEN! What do they know of Vanity?!? How fragile it is!!!

But You, Finley, have encountered mine many times! I admire your tenacity, I really do! You may be many things, in my opinion, but I'll have to give you that! Not lying, I Swear ;) Dear Irish, its true that I'm million years old, LOL, but I do change clothes and background, very often :) Only you can't see it in this postage stamp sized Avatar! I enjoy your company too!!! Especially our tea sessions :))
Okei dear, that's very sweet! But those people were scared to open their mouths. I won't like anyone to be afraid of me :) Pocko, would it be so WEIRD?!?

I want to find cotton and silk saree ... I look at Amazon the prices varies a lot. So I'm looking for good quality sarees ... If it is possible, natural silk saree ...

I have a Muslim friend who is getting married in August. I have absolutley no idea what to wear! My friend is from Pakistan and wears Western clothes to work and tradtional clothes at home and at family gatherings. I think what she wears is called a sholwar kamise (sorry I don't know how to spell it). She and her sisters don't wear hijabs so I don't have to worry about that. I just want to know what it appropriate to wear, as I will already stand out because I will be the only non-Muslim there. What I want to know is how much leg and arm should I have covered? I am tall so it will be hard to find and ankle length skirt so would pants be acceptable? Also, how long should my sleeves be? I was thinking about wearing 3/4 length sleeves, but again I don't know if that's appropriate or not. Any advise that you have would be great. Thanks!
Ok I guess I must have phrased this question wrong. What I want to know is if it would be appropriate for me to wear a 3/4 sleeve shirt and long pants and if not what type of western clothes would be appropriate. I don't plan on wearing the Shalwar kameez. I only asked the question because my friend is in Pakistan until the end of June and I was hoping to have something to wear by then.

I mean the Indian women of Asia, India has a 3000 year old civilization

I am laughing out loud right now. And after I showed it to my husband, he started laughing too. The thing is, nobody bothered to read the question, but instead acted as if I was blaming women. I am a woman. And as for my husband "beating" me for "being on here", that's even more incredible. My husband knows, and doesn't care much unless I neglect the kids or something, which never happens since they always come first. I have my own office, my own brand new computer, and a fast connection speed. He's almost never on here, but pays for it all because it makes me happy. There is nothing against women using the computer or driving a car (saudi arabia, dear God!). People have this image of us that just isn't true. I've been to Pakistan as well. The style there for women's clothing? So tight you don't need a bra if you're big chested, and not covered either. Why so ignorant?

@KEWL GIRL, thank you. this is exactly what i had in mind.

How come Indians treat women like 2nd class citizens ?

Why are women only valued as a bridal material ? And if they get old, widowed, or they are not attractive ..they are ignored by society ?

Why do they keep women in poverty ?

Today the whole world is talking about the terror attacks on India by Pakistani terrorists. Every TV channel in the world, every newspaper is filled with the heart-breaking stories and pictures of the tragedy that began on the night of 26th November 2008. The government of India has very generously granted lakhs of rupees to the families of the deceased. US has sent their representatives to promote peace talks between India & Pakistan. Every person in the world has condemned the terrorists and their disgustful acts. Signature campaigns and public demands have caused top government officials to resign.

Today, the police are claiming that all terrorists are either dead or arrested. There is no need to fear, none of them are on the loose.

But, is that really true?

Allow me to take you back to a few incidents ( I call them a terror-attacks ) that happened right here in India, just a few months ago. Only it wasn't in Mumbai, but another lesser known state Orissa.
- Priests were killed. Beaten up. Hammered and left bleeding naked on the streets to die.
- Nuns were raped.
- Children were burnt alive.
- Christians killed and cut to pieces.
- Rajni Machi, a 20-year-old HINDU girl, who was rejected by her parents because she was the eldest of 7 girls (the parents wanted a son), adopted by Fr. Edward Sequeira, was gang-raped by HINDU fundamentalists, and burnt alive.

- Hundreds of Churches & villages burnt and destroyed
- 60,000 plus Christians fled to the forests, with no food, no shelter, no sufficient clothing to keep them warm in the bitter cold.
- Volunteers from Mumbai and other parts of the country not allowed to go and help the victims.

- No provisions were allowed to be sent to them.
- Even today, 1000s of these poor, helpless Christians are hiding in the cold, dangerous forests, with no one to help them.

Now tell me are these fundamentalists any better that the terrorists? I say no, they are as much a terrorists as the ones who came from Pakistan. In fact, even worse. The terrorists who attacked Mumbai, attacked their enemies. The Indian fundamentalists, attacked their own brothers - fellow Indians.

And these terrorists in Orissa are still roaming around boasting about their great deeds. The Chief Minister of Orissa, Naveen Patnaik still sits on his throne. The attacks in Mumbai have ceased after 3 days. The attacks in Orissa still continue.

Will someone do something? Can we demand justice for the suffering? Or is that reserved only for the elite class of Taj & Oberoi in Mumbai. Some of those who were caught in the Taj and Oberoi have been saved and given a second chance in life. Can the people of Orissa expect the same?

Our rented apartment looks dull, and I want to spruce it up with some color.
I was thinking of using my wedding bangles and a saree (long flowing grarment of one piece, worn in India). You can see pictures of sarees here: http://images.google.com/images?q=saree+&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&start=0

Do you have any ideas for using a long piece of fabric, in decorating a wall? And bangles too.

The saree is around 20' by 3' (I think)

I'd like to use the saree in one piece, but I also welcome other suggestions.

Thanks!

Hi. I need to design a collection for my fashion designing class. It needs to be a collection of Indian clothes ( ethnic wear). I need a theme. Any suggestions?
