Girl in USA who likes salwar kameez or indian clothes, but feels shy to wear them in public?
Hi I am a girl (15 years old) who lives in the USA....I really like indian clothes and jewelry (bangles and things like that)
Sometimes I see indian women in traditional clothes shopping in the mall with their families...I would really like to buy and wear salwar kameez but I feel like indian people would think I am strange for wearing it, because I am not indian....

No, not at all. As an Indian, I would respect that and love that someone appreciates my culture and what it has to offer. It’s really nice to see other etnicities wear Indian suits. There’s nothing negative in it. I would say go for it if you like it..don’t worry about the others.
The Indians abroad, well they themselves are in a foreign land, and do adopt western cultures, and if the western people, don’t make fun of them, for adopting the cultures, why do u expect them to do so.
Moreover Indians have a very warm sense of hospitality, and they infact appreciate the fact that you are cherishing the Indian Culture, and they’ll actually love u for that.
So, listen to your heart, and try it out…(Plus, u’ll never know, if u dont ever go for it)
Honestly, Indians like to see Americans wearing indian clothes, they will be more then happy to guide to where to buy or gift you from India or within USA. (Edison, NJ is one place i know you get lots).
Also Indians are proud to flaunt their American brands be it clothing or accessories.
Indian or no Indian how does it matter if you wear the dress you like?
with salwar kamiz wear bangles and put bindi and I am sure you will look charming. In India foreigner (girls) also like to wear indian dress salwar kamiz.

It is not like that any of the Indian will think that you are not looking good, believe me you will look more beautiful in Indian dress then you are. I just want to say one thing that you should always wear the things which you like because no one else can judge better than you that what is going to suit you or not.
