Sometimes I see indian women in traditional clothes shopping in the mall with their families...I would really like to buy and wear salwar kameez but I feel like indian people would think I am strange for wearing it, because I am not indian....

i have been living in nz for the past 10yrs but always wonder why the indians born here are always shy to eat curry at work or why they never wear the regular indian clothes to the mall...!!! Can someone please give me the honest ans :0) thanks in advance

Ok, so I'm a goth and I'm going to India soon with my fiance, who is Indian. He is keen for me to try wearing some Indian clothes, but all the styles that I've seen from India I absolutely hate! None of them seem to be my style at all, can anyone offer any suggestions or am I completely screwed in that regard?

I have a salwar kurta and I need the kurta made bigger in certain places. Does anybody know a good seamstress familiar with Indian clothes in D.C or Richmond area?

I'd love to wear Indian clothes as i used to in India.But i cannot find a single store to buy them in US.I could find lots of online stores,but i want to choose them personally.Anybody who knows some place in Dallas,Texas?

By any yard stick a women wearing a Saree with a Bindi on her face looks beautiful, decent and even sexy too. But in the entire USA not even a single Indian woman wears a Saree to work or any where else. They wear only pants and trousers. They don't know in such dresses every single Indian woman whether she is a Hindu, Muslim or Christian look horrible and disgusting. It is an admitted fact the every single American Woman loves Indian clothes because of their vivid colors, designs and patterns. But they don't know how and where to buy them in the first place and also don't know how to wear them. If the women from South Asia especially from India start wearing Sarees and other Indian dresses to their work and when going out trust me you will see even hollywood celebrities in Sarees. But the zillion dollar question is who is going to educate our women? I am unsuccessful in convincing even my wife also in this aspect.

I have always loved Indian culture and am always learning more. I have been to a sikh temple with a good friend of mine before she went on vacation back in India and we lost contact.

Another good ONLINE friend on mine, keeps telling me how pretty I'd look in a Saree. Problem is the only Indian clothes I've warn before was the long tunic/pants and head wrap I wore to the temple. I borrowed it from my old friend.

We have a LARGE Indian community here in my part of the "westurn world" And I was wondering the following:

What exactly do I look for in a GOOD saree?
How do I put one on? *as silly as it sounds*
Is it traditional to go barefoot? Or can I wear sandals?
How do you wash them?
Any suggestions for fabric/design?
Any other information I need to know?
