When I see videos of Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc most of the men wear like these pajamas. Only a few actually wearing jeans and a t-shirt. Why is that?

In the culture, especially Pakistani that I am very familiar with as I lived in it for 5 years (not Pakistan, but the community in the US) and still am very into, they have a lot of dinner parties and birthday parties, did you know this? Did you know that for each occasion, her husband buys her new clothing and jewellry along with a nice pair of shoes to match, including the children (in my experience anyway)? Did you know we are not as oppressed as you think, even though I am white, but they are the same? Did you know that we go shopping when we want to, go for a drive when we feel like it, take the kids out, and have the right to demand payment for the housework and child care? Does any of this surprise you? Does it surprise you to know that most of our husbands do not complain as long as when they are hungry there is food available for them to either reheat or microwave and bread to eat it with? And did you know that if they lay a hand on us out of anger, rarely, we rescind?
It doesn't have to be diamonds and gold, now come on, that would be too much. Just a nice fashionable set from one of the stores is good enough. Otherwise it would just be ridiculous.
Think about that? Yeah, I did, when I was shopping for a lot of the clothing and jewellry in Pakistan, especially at the Pakistani weddings. Only in the west? Please! They brought it over FROM Pakistan.
Ok, what part of "Brought over from Pakistan" do you not understand? This is what goes on there a lot of the time. You say "try that there", what part about "I did, while shopping there" is hard to understand? And not with men, only with my one sister in law while the men were out in another area of the city doing their own shopping.
I counted 16 camels, in a herd, and that was it. Most people have cars, either Toyota or Honda. And their interiors are all leather, for many of the cars. Oh, and they come with these little pillows that can go around the top of the seats with elastic, for each passenger. Very comfortable. I suppose it amazes you to know that they have freeways, too, just like us, right?

I know in Pakistan/Afghanistan/India/Maybe even Iran and Bangladesh people wear Shalwar Kameez/Saris/Frocks.....is there any sort of traditional clothing for Arabs besides the thobe for men and abaya for women...?

Assalamu Alaikum

Pakistan has a comparative advantage in the production of cloth and clothing, and the United States has an absolute advantage in the production of these goods

Okay so we all know Pakistan and India are 97% alike, I mean our food, skin color, traditions, language, clothes, movies, music, standards etc are THE SAME, the only difference is Religion.

so as I was saying, in Indian movies, they are very open to nudity, sex scenes/kissing, aldultry, skimpy clothing YET that does not happen in reality, of course it does BUT not as open, just like in Pakistan.

my question is, is it portrayed realisticlly? do indians really wear skimpy clothes like that? do they do stuff like that?
I know being a Pakistani, we dont BUT of course there are always gonna be people that do, but our movie industry does not show it so openly(some do of course) but its always highly critisized, how come not in india? I just saw a beautiful cover of Vouge INDIA with a bikini-clad girl, nice cover but would NEVER happen in Pakistan , not now atleast

Is India ahead of their time in that sense? cuz I always wondered, do indians dress/act like that most of the time..
THANKS
@ joe

yeah but what I'm saying its excepted
girls can wear bikini's etc like its no big deal yet Pkaistani & indian culture is THE SAME and in Pakistan its no where accepted , another thing is when a PK actress does a certain sexy scene she is NOT respected, yet in india its NO BIG DEAl, lol its werid but I wanna know how it got from where it was to where its now

I know its not TRUE portayel of Indians but its accpeted meaning it might have some truth to it
@ Taglo

actually I was reffering to MOVIES, not drama's

yes the drama's arent even close to the movies

Go watch Jab we Met, Jism, Murder(should be rated R)

in the uk india or pakistan

As-Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatahu sisters.
I have a question and i hope you can help me with this.Previous year summer when i did not wear the hijab yet i made/bought lots of clothes when i went to Pakistan for my brother's in law wedding..but mostly clothes are half sleeves what can i do about that? I have a Muslim friend who is getting married in August. I have absolutley no idea what to wear! My friend is from Pakistan and wears Western clothes to work and tradtional clothes at home and at family gatherings. I think what she wears is called a sholwar kamise (sorry I don't know how to spell it). She and her sisters don't wear hijabs so I don't have to worry about that. I just want to know what it appropriate to wear, as I will already stand out because I will be the only non-Muslim there. What I want to know is how much leg and arm should I have covered? I am tall so it will be hard to find and ankle length skirt so would pants be acceptable? Also, how long should my sleeves be? I was thinking about wearing 3/4 length sleeves, but again I don't know if that's appropriate or not. Any advise that you have would be great. Thanks!
Ok I guess I must have phrased this question wrong. What I want to know is if it would be appropriate for me to wear a 3/4 sleeve shirt and long pants and if not what type of western clothes would be appropriate. I don't plan on wearing the Shalwar kameez. I only asked the question because my friend is in Pakistan until the end of June and I was hoping to have something to wear by then.

I am laughing out loud right now. And after I showed it to my husband, he started laughing too. The thing is, nobody bothered to read the question, but instead acted as if I was blaming women. I am a woman. And as for my husband "beating" me for "being on here", that's even more incredible. My husband knows, and doesn't care much unless I neglect the kids or something, which never happens since they always come first. I have my own office, my own brand new computer, and a fast connection speed. He's almost never on here, but pays for it all because it makes me happy. There is nothing against women using the computer or driving a car (saudi arabia, dear God!). People have this image of us that just isn't true. I've been to Pakistan as well. The style there for women's clothing? So tight you don't need a bra if you're big chested, and not covered either. Why so ignorant?

I am currently in Pakistan. I wear my neat & tidy clothes while going for prayer in masjid. But when it comes to my slippers they are just ordinary. The reason behind this is they might be stolen as it usually happens in here. So i am feeling myself guilty while wearing nice clothes and not an up to standard slippers. i am worried.

just need your help that what is according to sunnah ?

and what to do that is best for me?

THANKS

This man is practially worshipping Muslims. Maybe he should be a little more grateful to Hindus who have given him shelter after Muslims kicked him out of Pakistan, and he came as a refugee to India, got food, shelter, clothing and education here So how does he thanks...by working against India!!!
What do you call such a creature as Yogindar Sikand?

Millions of Bengalis (victims of rape and torcher) wher pushed across the border by Pak army forcing India to provide them shelter, refuge food ,clothing and even medical attention.
The Pakistanis justified their actions on grounds of being a superior race to dark skinned Bengalis! A God given right in their eves.
The tables have turned and now Millions of these fair skinned handsom Pakistanis live in tents.
Now do you believe in " What goes around, comes around" and " thou shall reap what thou shall sow" and simply in Insaf?
Khuda ke ghar der hai, Andher Nahin.
Love not
Neither the Bengalis nor Indians are responding to Pak racism.
What Pak is getting is the result of what it has sown in the past by the Law of action and reaction within Pakistan it self.

Where to get dog houses, kennels, collars, toys, clothes etc with world wide shipping?
i live in pakistan.

Why do people who have never been to a country only go by what they have heard or see on the TV? And why do news crews try so hard to portray all women as being swathed in sheets and bags when this is not the case? I've been to Pakistan, a so-called "islamic" country. You know, where you've heard of unislamic honor killings being done (Islam says rapist gets stoned to death, not victim). I remember getting off of the plane in Lahore and looking around. The entire trip, most women were very loosely covered, if covered at all. Many only had the "dupatta" hanging off of their shoulders, but not their heads covered. And the style of clothing is so tight that even big chested women don't need a bra. I actually had to fight to get my own clothing made loosely because it was so tight I could not breathe. Why do you people (not all, some) hold so tightly to stereotypes even when they're broken right in front of you?
I also saw a question where a nonMuslim told a woman "try going uncovered in Saudi Arabia and see how long you last". Actually, for hajj to Mecca, the holiest place for Islam, it's forbidden for women to cover their hair. They may only dress modestly, but their heads may not be covered. I guess there goes that theory right out of the water, huh?

okay, I went to this store in the mall, and it has really cute clothes.. and the name of the store starts with a 'p' but... i can't think of what the name of it. So, I was wondering if you could tell me some stores inside of a mall that starts with a 'p".. beside phat farm, Pacsun, Pakistan. Because i know that not it..

It was something like Panama..or .. I don't know.. lol.. maybe its not even like that.. I just know it starts wiht a 'P'..

So.. Please Help Me!!!

So I'm Pakistani, Well I was born there. And my parents were born there,
but we are mixed with turkish and chinese/mongolian ancestry.

I often try not telling people that I am pakistani, and you see how I tried to make myself not seem that much because I mentioned my other ancestry.

When people ask me what my ethnicity is and I say Pakistani. They say "eew" sometimes they even call me "Jihad"

But I don't really look Pakistani, Many of the time people are suprised when I say it.. They normally think I'm Middle Eastern and half Asian.

I want to be proud of being pakistani, but its hard when Media makes us look so bad. By calling us terrorist and just the typical image of a Pakistani.

Most ppl think of Osama Bin Ladin, or Taliban or Muslim Fanatics. The typical image of pakistanis are brown, smelly, terrorists. When its not like that at all. Pakistan is a very diverse place. There are fair looking people with blue eyes and blonde hair, to Punjab indian looking with darker skin, to more Chinese looking people. Most Pakistanis aren't terrorists or hate western lifestyle. In Pakistan they are wearing more westernized clothing.

So can you help me? I just feel ashamed when I say I'm Pakistani, because people think I'm a terrorist, and just how media has made us look so bad.

That if people want to move to a different country they should live by the rules and regulations of the country they move to?
For example:
If someone from the UK goes to live in Pakistan they should wear the appropriate clothing that is native to the country and vice versa?

Personally I think that if I were to go to a foreign land I should make every effort to "fit in" with their culture and likewise with persons coming into our country!

PLEASE NOT I AM NOT BEING RACIST - JUST INTERESTED IN DIFFERENT CULTURES AND POINTS OF VIEW.

when I was about 13 I was run over by a car and temporarily knocked unconscious. About a year later I started believing I was Jewish, it started off with an interest in Judaism and Jewish culture, then I used to go to Synagogue and I would tell people there I was Jewish. My behaviour also changed, I became aggressive to my parents and I actually hated my father with a passion, we used to get into physical fights. Then when I was about 15 I met a guy at a bus stop and I told him my father was Turkish and he lived in Turkey (this isn't true), and that I lived with my mum and my step-dad who are English. Through going round to his house one evening I met a Pakistani family who gave me some traditional clothes from Pakistan, I went home wearing one and my dad hit me and was furious with me. After that I ran away and stayed with my Muslim friend and I ended up going to a Mosque about 100 miles away and staying there for a few nights and then moving around the country staying in Mosques and evangelising to non-practicing Muslims, everybody loved me as I was "white" but I told them I was half Turkish, and I actually used to believe I was, I didn't think I was lying. One day the mosque I was staying in got a call from the police asking if I was there, I was and the police came and got me, dragging me out barefoot and keeping me in a cell, a few of the officers asked me if Iwas the white boy who thought he was a "paki" (their words). After this I began to hate white people, I distanced myself from my family more and more and assumed a Musilm name, everyone I met I told them that I was something other than what I was. Of course my parents still had legal rights over me and they made me stay in a teenager's hostel, I received psychotherapy and the therapist told my dad I had a "borderline" personality. My dad died when I was 17 and for the next 4-5 years I fluctuated between believing I was something else to believing the truth. Confrontations with the truth about myself made me very uncomfortable and I avoided my family at all costs. When I was about 22 I met someone who told me I was mentally ill and I went to a doctor, I got diagnosed wih Bipolar Disorder. Does this all mean I had a 10 year psychotic episode, if not what was going on?
