i've never been into teh sari very much. but my aunt's wedding is coming up and i'm actually finding myself into teh idea of wearing a saree! (preferbly a net kind!)...but i'm 13! i know that many ppl wear them even earlier but i would really love to! do you think I would be allowed? ( my relatives and would it be apprpriate)?
Hello peepss
Well, i got a small problem, i had long straight hair, but now i've had a bob hair cut. Next week, i'm attending an indian wedding and i'm planning to wear an indian outfit 'a saree'.. so do you think, this will be cute?!? i mean, wearing a saree and having short hair?!
Thanks for your answers..
How do you know which saree is made well?
What is the best material for them? Silk?
I am going to a wedding and everyone is wearing sarees and some are wearing kameez suits.
I see sarees for 0 and ones for 0. Will you look cheap in a cheaper one? Can anyone tell?
I've been shopping sarees online and don't know what fabric is best. The art silk seem very cheap does that mean they are heavy and uncomfortable. Having never worn a saree should I buy a cheap cotton printed just to try before investing in expensive party one?
Will I be able to survive snide glances and chinese whispers?!?
Dear Cyber-sisters....help me decide!
This real world is more cruel than you can imagine! I'm in mood of spending husband's hard-earned money on another Saree (which I'm unlikely to wear again...since I prefer Salwar-suits! But if you must know, Sarees are considered more elegant as party-wear!).
Here's the scenario...This Party, that I speak of, will have a different guest list than the previous one...but there are a few common factors...err, invitees. They're my problem!
What can I do to erase their memory? Will wearing different jewellery fool them?!?
I'm so glad to hear that, kaiyo
"No one will care!" And here I was losing sleep over a non-issue, LOL!
This is our party and all eyes will be on us...Still, its wonderful to know!!!
in *no* mood...sorry for the typo up there
Ah, MEN! What do they know of Vanity?!? How fragile it is!!!
But You, Finley, have encountered mine many times! I admire your tenacity, I really do! You may be many things, in my opinion, but I'll have to give you that! Not lying, I Swear
Dear Irish, its true that I'm million years old, LOL, but I do change clothes and background, very often
Only you can't see it in this postage stamp sized Avatar! I enjoy your company too!!! Especially our tea sessions :))
Okei dear, that's very sweet! But those people were scared to open their mouths. I won't like anyone to be afraid of me
Pocko, would it be so WEIRD?!?

Its were the gurl's family and friends meet and dance and have fun before the marriage and since it indian sangeet party guests are expected to wear salwar kameez or saree. My sister is looking to wear a nice saree with a some embrodiery on it for my Uncles wedding.
She has been trying to find some nice ones , preferably with a nice border print but they seem to be ridiculously expensive even for simple ones (£219!!) It would be great if someone could tell me a few shop names in London were I could get a decent priced one for my sister because she really wants one and she looks lovely but we arent rich so I would like to find some bargains ...
I wouldnt mind if it was unstitched but our budget is about 40-60 pounds not to heavily embroided just a shop which has a good range and choice
Thanks in advance
HYDERABAD: Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik entered matrimony at a Nikah ceremony today. Dressed in a beautiful red saree, Sania posed pretty as she headed for the venue on Monday, an Indian TV channel reported.
Earlier today, Sania Mirza’s spokesperson Rucha Nayak confirmed that Shoaib and Sania would materialise their Nikah on Monday, followed by mehndi ceremony on April 13, sangeet on April 14 and the reception will be held on April 15 as scheduled.
Nevertheless, Sania’s PRO also revealed that the tennis star will be wearing the same red saree, which her mother wore at her own Nikah 25 years back. Also, she is stated to go for a subtle make-up and the much raved about Arabic mehndi. On the other hand, Shoaib is set to wear a Black sherwani designed by renowned designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil.
My husband and I live in Australia together. So, my parents, brother, and sister came from the USA to our "English" wedding in Australia (my father-in-law wanted to but couldn't... he was the only one from hubby's side). This was a very small wedding (10 guests) my husband and I payed for it, and I wore an Indian dress (saree) for my husband. My parents spent ,000 on the trip. They didn't (and still don't) talk to my husband's parents, which my in-laws find very insulting. My family is that way and nothing will change them. We are having a second wedding in India for my husband's family. My parents and brother are coming, only for my husband (his request). They have no interest in this wedding. They are also stopping in Europe, and the total cost for this trip is another ,000. My father-in-law is covering ,000 of the Indian wedding cost and my husband and I are responsible for the rest. My husband also regularly pays his father- monthly- to cover debts and his parent's living cost (basically, we are paying for the whole wedding). My father-in-law just sent an email to my father that very directly and politely asks for ,000 toward the Indian wedding. He added figures (false) to make the cost of the wedding a total of ,000 and said as per universal customs my dad should pay half. My dad answered back a polite no. My dad is furious with this email and my father-in-law is enraged with the reply. Who is right anyway? Should my dad be paying anything? Is there some cultural backing for my father-in-law's anger that I don't understand? I do not feel that my dad should have to pay anything to my father-in-law but now my husband agrees with his father. How do I fix this between the two families? I already feel bad because I would have liked an American wedding with my own family rather than the Australian, and for making my family fly all over the world at their expense.
I am a product design student doing a academic project on Public toilets for Indian Urban areas. Being a male, i just cannot ask a woman directly how they go about their business.
So i want to know what are the difficulties faced by Indain women while wearing the saree, and use toilets in terms of how they remove their saree, their undergarments and how they are able to cleanse themselves afterwards. Also are there any major differences between male and female toilets/urinals or should something extra be added to Public toilets work better for women.
I assure u i am no pervert in wanting to know all this... this is my last resort to get this data...
The final aim of the project is to design a low cost toilet for Urban India to be put up on a large scale.
So any information , even if i cant directly reference it to Yahoo answers will still help me understand the problem further and point out new issues that i would never think of , for the simple fact that i m male and can never imagine how using the toilet would be for a woman.
I have chosen the saree because i assume that it will be harder to use the sarree in the toilet than a salwar kameez.. but i could be wrong!
And i can never get a woman to actually show me how she goes about her business.. so that limits my best chance of collecting solid , first hand data

please help me!!! I need to find a pretty dress! it has to be an actual dress not a Saree.
I'll be in Aligarh on the 21st and Mumbai on the 27th. I've heard that it gets very hot in India, but that women shouldn't wear typical Western hot-weather clothing (shorts, short skirts, tanks, halters, tubes, etc. are considered offensive). I was thinking of packing colorful linen pants, maybe some pretty cotton/ linen tunics and maybe a maxi dress (worn with a shrug or blouse over it)?? I'll be wearing a saree to the wedding, of course, but does anyone have any suggestions for during the day? Thanks a lot!
On 6th March 2007, we had the farewell party for all (hopefully) ''Soon-to-be-graduates''. That morning my mother was supposed to drape the saree for me which i decided to wear a night before the Farewell. We never attended any Farewell parties in our 1st & 2nd year. We found it a waste of time so we ended up bunking college on that day or we spent the day at shehla's place (our escape) watching movies.
I woke up on the day and tried to wake up my mother for the saree. But! Apparently she was not feeling too well and she asked e to go over at afrah's place and let her do it. Now, as much as I was delighted to see afrah that morning. I was also afraid that she wont be able to drape the saree the way it should be. (i lived under an illusion that only mom can do it the best!)
Anyway, out of any options left I called up Afrah to check if i can drop by at her place and she could drape the saree for me.She agreed to do it and I took my saree at her place with whatever few cosmetics i possessed. I didn't expect her to agree to get ready with me but to my shock she did. When i entered her room she was getting ready. P.s. she looked hot
She had a look at me and realised what a mess i was in. So, she decided she'll drape her saree first and then mine. I took a small video of that in my phone with the sole intention of irritating her and after a few seconds I succeeded as she asked to stop recording or else she would smash my phone.
She then, draped my saree keeping in mind my constant requests of draping the saree ''AS LOW WAIST AS POSSIBLE''. Once, she did it i was pretty satisfied with the result. Infact, It was better than Mom (I hope, she is not reading this!)
Afrah then asked what am i wearing in my eaes to which i had no response. As I was a tomboyish brat I considered owning a pair of feminish jewellery as an insult or so I thought. So, then afrah got me these dangling earrings and asked me to wear them. When i asked her if she owned them she reaplied that it belonged to 'Juhi' (afrah's cousin). I hesitantly wore the earrings which added all the more charm to the way i looked. The saree did wonders to me.
All my classmates were shocked to see me like that and most of all, they were shocked to realize that i had a feminine side to myself. Throughout the day i was showered with compliments. But, I was a bit disappointed with the dept of my Blouse's as it seemed like Afrah a.k.a. Affu and Ammu had a secret competition of ''Who has the deepest Neck''. Though, Ammu won with her 14-Inch Broad neck which showed good amount of her back. Afrah had a 13-inch round neck. My blouse had a very very small neck.
Near the end of the day i was pretty pleased with the way i was looking. Afrah and I clicked alot of Ammu's pictures for a secret reason
But, we were like rockstars or something of that sort. They were soo many girls from our class who wanted to click pictures with us. From the Padhantu Students to the ''Wannabe's''A
Just before we were approaching towards Shehla's car, we had a group of 'Padhantu's' a.k.a ''The apple of teacher's eyes''. I signalled Shehla to start the car but she said that it would be rather indecent to do so. Anyway, the group consisted of Tayyaba, Sakina, Mubeena i think. All Na-Na's. All 3 of them were complimenting on how smart and girly i was looking. What surprised me the most was the compliment from Tayyaba which goes like ''Ham log toh sonche the Ambreen-Afrah acche dikhinge, magar aap toh dono se bhi acche dikhre(we thought amby-affu would look good, but you are looking better than them)''.
I couldn't help myself but wonder, Do i really look so girly? Not that Afrah was. Afrah was girly only when needed. Otherwise, You'd find her in baggy jeans and t-shirt. Oh and before the party ended my lipstick was gone. .... another mysterious reason.
This is the pic that Azra wanted to take you can notice her black saree but she got cropped ![]()
Neverthe;ess, the party continued later at shehla's place not to mention the little accident on our way and my dear filthy mouth. Shehla won 2000/- rupees as she won the Ms.Positive at the Ms. St.Ann's competition. She shone like a star.
*Note : The photo will NOT be included here due to the Extreme Haut-Ness and Awesomeness that may run wild imaginations in the reader's mind.
**Note: I don't have any problems with the Padhantu's or the studious ones but all 3 years of my college life, it appeared that the only reason for their existence in this world was to please all teachers even the bitchy ones. Oh and they loved to do homework which created problems for students like me, who thought we were grown enough to give a shit about the 'Homework'. Not to mention, their obsession to solve problems ASAP and flaunt it to the teach! So, that the rest of the class could look dumb.
I mss my college days....
despite the fact that it was like a ''JAIL'' we got away with bribing the watchman!
I have oily skin though now that it is very dry winter,my skin often feels very much parched after washing it with a face wash( i use tea tree face wash from oriflame) or after applying a face pack(neem-tulsi herbal one).I am 22 and am neither fair, nor dark.Typical Indian skin tone..may be a bit light. It's my cousin sister's wedding in 10days' time.I will be wearing a maroon gold sequin saree.I have short hair and i am slightly on the heavier side. How should I do the make-up?Please someone guide me on the make-up.My eyes and lips are my best features.I would love to highlight them.ALso my facial features are sharp.I have a pimple prone skin.Just got a facial done yesterday. Please someone give me tips for make up.thanks in advance!
I have long hair, cut in steps. It's my cousin's wedding next month. What hair style should I wear if I wrap a Benarasi saree?.
I know this is the weirdest question to ask but I have no idea where else to ask. My friend in US wants to desperately get an indian bridal outfit for her sister in Nairobi. Do you have any idea where can she get a bridal saree in Nairobi?? Thanks!!!!!!
from the traditional saree? Or is it complete saree or modern dress with no in between? In Tamil tradition, who pays for the wedding? In Canada, it's of course the responsibility of the parents of the bride, but I am a single mother on a restricted income. Any ideas?

My sister got married to an Indian man in India 2 months ago and came back and is wearing bindis, bangles, and some necklace and red dye that means she's married or something. She's filing for a spousal visa to bring him here so they can live, so shouldn't she act American and just wear a wedding band instead of dressing in all that stuff? I'm getting married in August and I know she'll come dressed in a saree instead of a normal dress and it'll look weird.
My dad is going to india and i want a saree but i dont know the names of new type stylish sarees that youngsters wear
hey guys,i have ben in an unusual problem these days,a very strange thing happened with me 3 weeks ago.
3 weeks ago we had a fest in our college where all the girls had to be in ethnic wear and we boys in formals. It was in the evening around 6:00 pm the program was organised.i went to the program hall at arounf 5:30 and waited to see my girlfriend as i had never seen her in a saree.she arrived at 5:45 and oh!man she was looking gorgeous in her green designer saree with long ear hangings, she had got her hair straitened a few days back and it added to her beauty,i was amazed to see her.
After the program ended around 7:30 pm as planned before my girlfriend sanju and me decided to go on a long ride,(i am known as one of the most skilled biker in my circle i can beat anyone in my college)..i had bought my royal engfield bullet bike as it is authentic and great for a romantic ride..I sat on the bike took out the stand and asked her to sit,she sat the way all women in saree sit i.e side ways..i dint go my usual way and ride on a minimum speed to enjoy the romantic ride..it was the first time i had taken her for a ride and wanted to enjoy her pressense..as i took the highway which is near to my college a bunch of guys from our college whom she hated the most came in their bikes and started riding it near to us,as expected they wanted to iritate us,so,they came near and screemed at sanju saying "are going on a bike or a tortoise?" and speeded away ahead of us.
I dint pay much attention even though i knew i can beat them and race ahead of them,i am 100% faster than them but i was in a romantic mood..but sanju started shouting " go fast!!,go fast!! beat them" i just increases the speed a little bit but i dint want to spoil the romance..she started shouting again,so, i got crossed and shouted "this is the fastest i will ride" and the guys who teased us stopped and stared laughing they were atleast 200 metersaway from us..after i shouted she was quiet for a moment and again shouted "stop" i stopped in shock..she shouted again "get down" i was angry and i got down, then she didi the unthinkable she gave me her clutch bag and jumbed to the riders' seat!!can u beleive it riding a bullet in a saree??fortunately she wore sume short pants inside, and she screamed again "sit" i was in total shock to argue and sat on the back seat, she rode it ahead and the teasing guys also stood in shock she went ahead of them and said "i won,u loosers" those guys just went in their own directions..i knew she can ride a bike but in a saree??anyway she stopped ahead and got down i was stunned, she said "see thats all,y u so scared??coward!!,now no more long ride, drop me home" she asked me to drop because her house was in the heart of the city and there were many police men and she dint have the license..i dropped her and went home and in the next day in college she said she got body pains as the bullet is a heavy bike and she wasnt used to riding heavy bikes..from that day she dosent beleive when i say about my biking skills..i've enen shown a few glimpses of it but she isnt convienced..now whenever we go out she insists on taking the public transport..what do i do to win back my reputation??plz help!!
hello all male and females, guys and gals, ladies and gentlemen,
I am going to get married very soon. I like to see girls and women wearing saree below navel, especially with short blouse, with low cut in the front and back. It really turns me on.
My question is, how can I ask my wife to wear saree well below her navel.? (Of course only for my viewing only!!!) Do women like to wear saree like that? How can I ask her, without hurting her feelings and Do I have the right/permission to ask her to do so? Please help me...
Thanks a lot...
I recently bought a beautiful saree from and now I need to get a blouse stitched for it. I wanted something fancy so the tailor told me I should get it done in a new style. The pattern at the back will form a V and its ends will be left free so I will have to tie a knot at the back. Front will be U neck. Has anyone of you ever made such a blouse?
Let me know what you think.
